Update on Ehrlichiosis

You may have seen Ehrlichiosis making headlines in the news recently so here is a little bit of info about the disease!

Ehrlichiosis is a disease dogs can get from the brown dog tick. The severity of the disease varies and common symptoms are fever, anaemia, neutropenia, thrombocytopenia (low blood platelets) and jaundice. Ehrlichiosis is unlikely to establish in places like Goulburn as its too humid and too cold therefore the disease is only a concern in dogs that have recently been in far north WA or NT. We recommend covering your dogs with a tick treatment such as Bravecto or Nexguard, especially if they are hunting dogs.
